Image-guided hip injection

Hip labrum repair cost in the UK

How much does hip labrum repair cost in the UK?

Hip labrum repair cost at LCC is from £16,000+ for the surgical pathway, but most patients we see do well on an injection-first hip labrum pathway from £1,400 and never need surgery. Hip labrum repair across UK private clinics typically ranges from £8,000 to £14,000 for the surgical fee alone, often before the anaesthetist or follow-up are added. We publish the surgical hip labrum repair cost transparently and reserve it for cases where image-guided injection has not delivered lasting symptom control.

We aim to manage hip labrum injuries non-surgically wherever possible. The full surgical price is shown for transparency.

Hip labrum repair cost in the UK explained

Most hip labrum tears that present in clinic do better with image-guided injection than with arthroscopic repair. The labrum is a small, well-vascularised structure in part of its circumference; injecting biology directly into the joint, under ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance, often gives lasting symptom control without the risks of hip arthroscopy. Our injection pathway starts at £1,400 for an image-guided injection appointment and includes the consultation, the imaging, the injection and a follow-up.

Surgical hip labrum repair is reserved for cases where the injection pathway has been tried properly and has not delivered lasting symptom control, where mechanical symptoms (clicking, locking, giving way) cannot be managed conservatively, or where there is associated cam or pincer impingement that needs addressing. The surgical price reflects theatre time for a complex hip arthroscopy, the consultant anaesthetist, and the surgical team time.

Why hip labrum care at LCC

  • Injection-first pathway

Most UK clinics advertise hip arthroscopy as the default for labrum tears. We take an injection-first view because the published outcome data on hip arthroscopy for labrum tears alone is not as strong as patients are sometimes led to believe. We will tell you, honestly, when surgery is the right conversation.
  • Image-guided injection done well

Hip injections delivered without ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance are guesswork. At LCC every hip injection uses image guidance, with biological augmentation (PRP, mFat or ChondroFiller) chosen on clinical grounds rather than on what the clinic happens to stock.
  • Surgical repair where it is the right answer

Where injection has been tried properly and has not given lasting symptom control, surgical repair is appropriate. We do not refuse to operate when surgery is right; we simply will not operate when injection has not been tried or when the clinical indication is weak.
  • Honest about surgical outcomes

Hip arthroscopy for isolated labrum tears does not always restore the joint to where the patient hoped. We will share what the published outcome data says, in writing, at consultation. The price is the same whether the operation works as well as you hoped or not, so the honest conversation needs to happen before booking.

Your hip labrum journey

  1. 1

    Discovery call (free, 15 minutes)

A clinical coordinator confirms whether your symptoms fit the injection-first pathway, or whether a surgical conversation is the right starting point.
  2. 2

    Consultation (£350, 60 minutes)

Imaging review, examination and a treatment plan in writing. We confirm whether image-guided injection is appropriate, what the right biology is, and how to know if surgery becomes the next conversation.
  3. 3

    Image-guided injection (most patients)

A 30 to 45 minute outpatient appointment using ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance. PRP, mFat or ChondroFiller delivered into the affected joint.
  4. 4

    Six-week follow-up

Clinical review, pain and function scores, and a decision on whether further injection, conservative care or surgical referral is appropriate.
  5. 5

Where surgery is the right answer

Pre-operative preparation, surgery at our partner hospital on Weymouth Street, central London, post-operative reviews and a six-month outcome assessment.

Funding, insurance and payment

Self-pay

Image-guided injection from £1,400. Surgical labrum repair from £16,000+. Settled by bank transfer or card before the procedure.

We can discuss finance options on request rather than promoting a specific finance partner.

Private medical insurance

London Cartilage Clinic is a private-pay practice and does not work with UK insurance panels.

If you are insured, we can provide an itemised invoice for you to submit for reimbursement, but you settle the bill with us directly.

International patients

We coordinate consultation, imaging and treatment into a focused visit for international patients, whether the right answer turns out to be injection or surgery.

Outcomes after hip labrum repair

Most patients on our injection-first hip labrum pathway report meaningful symptom improvement at six to twelve weeks after treatment, with effects lasting six to twelve months for PRP and longer for ChondroFiller. The aim is durable symptom control without the risks of hip arthroscopy.

Where injection has not delivered lasting symptom control, surgical labrum repair is the next conversation. Most surgical patients are walking unaided by week six and return to recreational activity by three to six months. We will be honest with you about what published outcome data shows for hip arthroscopy in labrum-tear-only cases before any surgical decision is made.

Patient stories

Three other clinics had told me hip surgery was inevitable. The injection pathway at LCC has given me eighteen pain-free months and counting. I am genuinely grateful that someone took the time to explain why surgery was not the right first move.

Frequently asked questions

How much does hip labrum repair cost in the UK?

Surgical hip labrum repair at LCC is from £16,000+ all-inclusive. We will, however, start any hip labrum conversation with an image-guided injection pathway first, from £1,400, because most patients we see do well with injection and do not need surgery.

Why does LCC try injection first rather than surgery?

Hip arthroscopy for isolated labrum tears does not always restore the joint to where the patient hoped, and the published outcome data on it is mixed. Image-guided injection (PRP, mFat or ChondroFiller) often gives lasting symptom control without the risks of surgery. We will tell you, honestly, when injection is no longer the right conversation.

When is surgical hip labrum repair the right operation?

Where the injection pathway has been tried properly and has not delivered lasting symptom control. Where mechanical symptoms (clicking, locking, giving way) cannot be managed conservatively. Where there is associated cam or pincer impingement that needs addressing. We assess this at consultation.

What goes into the image-guided injection pathway?

A consultation, an image-guided injection appointment using ultrasound or fluoroscopy, biological augmentation appropriate to your labrum (PRP, mFat or ChondroFiller), and a six-week follow-up. We choose the biology on clinical grounds, not on what the clinic happens to stock.

Can I claim hip labrum care on private medical insurance?

LCC is a private-pay practice and does not contract with UK PMI panels. We can provide an itemised invoice if you wish to claim independently.

Does the surgical price include the anaesthetist?

Yes. The £16,000+ figure includes the consultant anaesthetist’s fee, theatre time, and the surgeon’s time on the day.

How long is recovery, and is physiotherapy included?

For injection patients, most are back to most activity within two to four weeks. For surgical patients, walking unaided by week six and return to recreational activity by three to six months. Physiotherapy is not included; we share the post-procedure programme with your physiotherapist.

How does hip labrum repair compare to ChondroFiller for the labrum?

ChondroFiller is delivered as an injection and supports tissue regeneration. Surgical repair re-tensions and sutures the labrum directly. ChondroFiller is part of the injection-first pathway; surgical repair is the next conversation if injection has not worked.

Why is surgical repair priced where it is?

The £16,000+ figure reflects theatre time for a complex hip arthroscopy, the consultant anaesthetist, the surgeon’s time, and a six-month follow-up programme. The figure is from £16,000+ because some hip labrum cases need additional procedures (cam or pincer impingement work) that add to the surgical time.

Will I get an honest answer about whether surgery is right for me?

Yes. Where injection is not the right conversation we will say so. Where surgery is not the right conversation we will also say so. The clinic does not benefit financially from pushing you toward an operation that the published outcome data does not strongly support.

Where will the procedure happen?

The consultation and image-guided injections take place at 66 Harley Street. Surgery, where it is the right conversation, is performed at our partner private hospital on Weymouth Street, central London.
