Meniscus repair cost in the UK explained
Meniscus repair at LCC is a precision arthroscopic procedure that preserves the native meniscus rather than removing it. The torn meniscus is sutured back together and the repair is biologically augmented to support healing: PRF (platelet-rich fibrin), collagen scaffold and mFat (micro-fragmented adipose tissue) are added at the time of surgery. A typical meniscus repair takes ninety to one hundred and twenty minutes of theatre time. Imaging review, instrumentation, surgical disposables and the biological augmentation make up a meaningful share of the cost.
At LCC meniscus repair is performed by Professor Paul Lee. Anaesthesia is delivered by a consultant anaesthetist focused on lower-limb orthopaedic surgery. The £9,800 figure covers the surgeon’s time on the day, the consultant anaesthetist, theatre time, the biological augmentation, and two post-operative reviews plus a six-month outcome review. Where a meniscus tear is associated with a focal cartilage defect, ChondroFiller can be added to the repair at an extra £2,000; we will tell you at consultation if this is appropriate.

Why meniscus repair at LCC
Repair, not removal
Many UK clinics still default to partial meniscectomy (trimming the torn meniscus) on the grounds that it is simpler and quicker. The long-term consequence of removing meniscal tissue is accelerated cartilage wear in the affected compartment. We repair wherever the tear pattern allows.Biology included as standard
PRF, collagen scaffold and mFat are added to every meniscus repair at LCC to support healing. Many clinics that offer biological augmentation add these as paid extras; we include them in the £9,800 price.ICRS Teaching Centre of Excellence
LCC is recognised by the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society as a Teaching Centre of Excellence. Meniscus and cartilage preservation are principal interests of the clinic. The surgeon you see is the surgeon who operates
Pre-operative consultation, surgery and post-operative reviews are with Professor Lee. There is no transfer to a registrar or to another consultant.
Your meniscus repair journey
- 1
Discovery call (free, 15 minutes)
A clinical coordinator confirms whether meniscus repair looks like the right treatment to investigate, books the consultation if so, and answers cost questions. - 2
Consultation with Professor Lee (£350, 60 minutes)
Imaging review, examination, and a treatment plan in writing. We confirm whether the tear is repairable and whether ChondroFiller augmentation is also indicated. - 3
Pre-operative preparation
Bloods, anaesthetic review, consent process. Typically two to three weeks before surgery. - 4
Day of surgery
Day-case admission at our partner hospital on Weymouth Street, central London. Surgery takes ninety to one hundred and twenty minutes. Most patients are home the same day. - 5
First two weeks
Brace, crutches and protected weight-bearing while the repair heals. Direct line to the surgical team for any concerns during this period. - 6
Weeks 2 to 12
Physiotherapy with your chosen physiotherapist, progressive return to function. Two follow-up consultations included with us. - 7
Six-month review
Outcome assessment, return-to-sport guidance where applicable, and discharge planning.

International patients
Outcomes after meniscus repair
A successful meniscus repair preserves the meniscus and protects the underlying cartilage from accelerated wear. Most patients are walking unaided by week six and return to recreational activity by three to six months after meniscus repair, with cutting and pivoting sport confirmed at the six-month review. Outcomes for biologically-augmented meniscus repair are better than for repair without augmentation, which is why we include the biology as standard.
Where the meniscus is unrepairable, meniscus replacement (allograft) is an alternative; outright partial meniscectomy is a last resort because of its long-term consequences for the joint.
Patient stories
I had been told to just trim the torn part out. Professor Lee repaired it instead and added the biology. Six months later the knee feels like the one I had at twenty.
