Private ChondroFiller® in Harley Street

A single specialist appointment, in central London

London Cartilage Clinic is a self-funded private practice at 66 Harley Street, London. ChondroFiller® at our clinic is delivered as a focused outpatient appointment, not as part of a hospital admission.

Most patients are seen for a one-hour consultation with Professor Paul Lee in which imaging is reviewed, the cartilage defect is mapped, and a written treatment plan is agreed. The injection itself is delivered under real-time ultrasound guidance, with no general anaesthetic and no surgical incision.

We treat patients from across London, the UK and internationally. International patients can have consultation, imaging and treatment coordinated into a single focused visit.

Who Performs the Injection

Treatment is delivered by Professor Paul Y.F. Lee

Professor Paul Y.F. Lee is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, medical engineer and an international leader in cartilage regeneration. He introduced ChondroFiller® to UK practice and was the first clinician to deliver it as an injection in the UK. London Cartilage Clinic is an ICRS Teaching Centre of Excellence.

The clinician who consults with you is the clinician who delivers the injection. We do not hand off ChondroFiller® cases to less experienced operators.

Choosing a ChondroFiller® Clinic in London

Questions to ask before booking ChondroFiller® in London

ChondroFiller® is operator-sensitive and defect-specific. These questions help you compare London providers on the things that actually move clinical outcomes, regardless of which clinic you choose.

  • Is ChondroFiller a core part of the clinic’s practice?

ChondroFiller is operator-sensitive and defect-specific. Ask how many ChondroFiller injections the named clinician has performed personally. London Cartilage Clinic introduced ChondroFiller to the UK as an injection and maintains an outcome database.
  • Is the injection delivered under real-time ultrasound guidance?

ChondroFiller fills a specific cartilage defect. Without ultrasound guidance, placement is guesswork. Some clinics inject by anatomical landmark alone, which is faster and cheaper but defeats the purpose of a defect-targeted scaffold.
  • Who performs the injection, and is it the same clinician as the consultation?

A consultant-led pathway where the consulting clinician also injects gives you a single point of accountability. A consultation/inject hand-off is cheaper to staff but is not the same service.
  • Has the clinic reviewed your imaging before quoting?

Box requirement (one, two or three) and even whether ChondroFiller is the right treatment depends on defect size, location and surrounding cartilage quality. A clinic quoting before seeing imaging is quoting without enough information.
  • What outcome data does the clinic publish for ChondroFiller?

ChondroFiller is a regenerative product with measurable outcomes (IKDC, Harris Hip Score, MOCART MRI). A clinic publishing its own outcome data is selecting for results. A clinic that only quotes manufacturer figures may not have a meaningful cohort.
  • What clinical follow-up is included as standard?

A six-week clinical review is the minimum we would recommend for a regenerative scaffold. Cheaper packages sometimes skip follow-up entirely or quote it separately, which leaves the patient without a checkpoint while new tissue is establishing.
  • How does the clinic decide who is NOT suitable for ChondroFiller?

ChondroFiller is best suited to selected focal cartilage defects, not widespread bone-on-bone arthritis or defects significantly larger than 6 cm². A clinic willing to decline unsuitable cases is selecting for outcomes; a clinic that says yes to everyone is selecting for revenue.
  • Are biologic add-ons (stem cells, PRP) part of a planned protocol or upsold on the day?

Combination treatment may be clinically appropriate, but should be decided at consultation after imaging review, not upsold on the day of the injection. Ask for the complete plan and the total cost in writing before agreeing.

Watch Out For

Red flags when choosing a ChondroFiller® provider in London

  • No pre-treatment MRI review

ChondroFiller is defect-specific. A clinic prepared to inject without reviewing imaging is not selecting the right patients or the right number of boxes.
  • Headline price that excludes the product itself

Some quotes price the procedure only and add the ChondroFiller product separately. Ask for the all-in cost in writing before deciding.
  • No published or auditable outcome data

For a regenerative product, the clinic should be able to show what their patients’ IKDC, Harris Hip Score or MOCART scores look like at six and twelve months.
  • Surgery sold as the only option for a focal defect

ChondroFiller can be delivered as an injection for most focal defects. If a clinic only offers a surgical pathway without discussing the injection option, you are not getting the full picture.
  • Biologic add-ons bundled by default

Combination treatment with stem cells or PRP should be decided after imaging review, not bundled into every quote. Ask for an itemised plan and the rationale for each component.
  • No named clinician on the booking confirmation

If you cannot see who will deliver the injection before paying a deposit, the clinic is reserving the right to substitute a less experienced operator on the day.

ChondroFiller® in London

Frequently asked questions

Where in London is ChondroFiller® delivered?

ChondroFiller® at London Cartilage Clinic is delivered at our clinic on 66 Harley Street, London W1G 7HD. Consultation, ultrasound and the injection itself all take place at this address. ChondroFiller® as an injection is an outpatient procedure and no hospital admission is required.

How long does the ChondroFiller® appointment take?

Plan for a one-hour consultation slot. The injection itself is a 30 to 45 minute outpatient appointment delivered under real-time ultrasound guidance. The collagen gel sets in the defect within minutes. Most patients walk out and resume light activity the same day.

Can I drive home after ChondroFiller®?

Most patients drive home or use public transport without difficulty. There is no general anaesthetic and no sedation; the injection is delivered under local anaesthetic only. For the standard ultrasound-guided injection, driving home is fine. Public transport from Harley Street is straightforward, see “How to find us” below.

Is parking available near 66 Harley Street?

Westminster City Council operates paid on-street parking around Harley Street, with a small number of disabled bays. The nearest large public car parks are at Cavendish Square and Welbeck Street. Most patients use the tube; Regent’s Park, Oxford Circus and Bond Street are all within a ten-minute walk.

Do you treat patients travelling from outside London?

Yes. A meaningful share of our ChondroFiller® patients travel from outside the UK. We can coordinate consultation, imaging and treatment into a focused visit; travel and accommodation are arranged separately. Follow-up can be done by phone or video where in-person review is impractical.

Is ChondroFiller® on the NHS in London?

No. ChondroFiller® is not routinely funded by the NHS in London or anywhere else in the UK, and is not currently covered by the major UK private medical insurers. Patients access ChondroFiller® privately on a self-funded basis. We can provide an itemised invoice if you wish to submit a claim independently.

Can ChondroFiller® treat joints other than the knee in London?

Yes. We treat the knee most often, but ChondroFiller® is also delivered into the hip, shoulder, ankle, elbow, foot, hand and wrist where there is a cartilage defect that would benefit. The same Harley Street clinic, the same Professor Lee, the same box-tier pricing across joints.
