Why this costs what it costs
Rotator cuff repair is an arthroscopic procedure to re-attach the torn tendon to the bone. At London Cartilage Clinic the repair is augmented with REGENTEN, a porcine collagen tendon-augmentation device that supports tendon healing and reduces the risk of re-tear in larger or retracted tears. A typical case takes ninety to one hundred and twenty minutes of theatre time. The augmentation, surgical disposables, instrumentation and consumables make up a meaningful share of the cost.
The £16,000figure covers the surgeon’s time on the day, the consultant anaesthetist, theatre time, the REGENTEN augmentation, and two post-operative reviews plus a six-month outcome assessment. Many UK clinics charge separately for tendon augmentation devices; we include them in the price as standard.

Why rotator cuff repair at London Cartilage Clinic
REGENTEN augmentation as standard
REGENTEN is a tendon-augmentation collagen device that supports rotator cuff repair and reduces re-tear risk in larger or retracted tears. Many UK clinics charge for it separately when they offer it at all. We include it in the £16,000 price.Charles Corbin, consultant shoulder surgeon
Rotator cuff repair at London Cartilage Clinic is led by Charles Corbin, our consultant shoulder and hand surgeon. The pre-operative consultation, surgery and post-operative reviews are all with Charles.Honest about whether surgery is the right answer
Many rotator cuff tears, particularly partial-thickness ones, do well with conservative management or biologically-augmented injection. We will tell you, at consultation, whether surgery is the right conversation for your tear or whether non-surgical care should be tried first. The surgeon you see is the surgeon who operates
There is no transfer to a registrar or to another consultant between consultation and theatre.
Your rotator cuff journey
- 1
Discovery call (free, 15 minutes)
A clinical coordinator confirms whether surgical repair looks like the right conversation, books the consultation if so, and answers cost questions. - 2
Consultation with Charles Corbin (£350, 60 minutes)
Imaging review, examination, and a treatment plan in writing. We confirm whether the tear is best managed surgically, conservatively or with image-guided injection. - 3
Pre-operative preparation

Day of surgery
Day-case admission at our partner hospital on Weymouth Street, central London. Surgery takes ninety to one hundred and twenty minutes. Most patients are home the same day. - 5

Weeks 6 to 16
Physiotherapy with your chosen physiotherapist, progressive return to function. Two follow-up consultations included with us. - 7
Six-month review

International patients
Outcomes and what changes
Most patients are out of the sling by week six and return to most recreational activity by four to six months. Higher-impact activity (overhead sport, heavy lifting) is confirmed at the six-month review. The REGENTEN augmentation reduces re-tear risk compared to repair without augmentation.
For smaller, partial-thickness tears, conservative management or biologically-augmented injection often gives as good an outcome as surgery. We will be honest about which is the right conversation for your specific tear.
Patient stories
I had a complete rotator cuff tear and was told it would not heal without surgery. The repair with REGENTEN held up well; six months on I am back to climbing.
