Inclusive price

Why this costs what it costs

Rotator cuff repair is an arthroscopic procedure to re-attach the torn tendon to the bone. At London Cartilage Clinic the repair is augmented with REGENTEN, a porcine collagen tendon-augmentation device that supports tendon healing and reduces the risk of re-tear in larger or retracted tears. A typical case takes ninety to one hundred and twenty minutes of theatre time. The augmentation, surgical disposables, instrumentation and consumables make up a meaningful share of the cost.

The £16,000figure covers the surgeon’s time on the day, the consultant anaesthetist, theatre time, the REGENTEN augmentation, and two post-operative reviews plus a six-month outcome assessment. Many UK clinics charge separately for tendon augmentation devices; we include them in the price as standard.

Why rotator cuff repair at London Cartilage Clinic

  • REGENTEN augmentation as standard

REGENTEN is a tendon-augmentation collagen device that supports rotator cuff repair and reduces re-tear risk in larger or retracted tears. Many UK clinics charge for it separately when they offer it at all. We include it in the £16,000 price.
  • Charles Corbin, consultant shoulder surgeon

Rotator cuff repair at London Cartilage Clinic is led by Charles Corbin, our consultant shoulder and hand surgeon. The pre-operative consultation, surgery and post-operative reviews are all with Charles.
  • Honest about whether surgery is the right answer

Many rotator cuff tears, particularly partial-thickness ones, do well with conservative management or biologically-augmented injection. We will tell you, at consultation, whether surgery is the right conversation for your tear or whether non-surgical care should be tried first.
  • The surgeon you see is the surgeon who operates

There is no transfer to a registrar or to another consultant between consultation and theatre.

Your rotator cuff journey

  1. 1

    Discovery call (free, 15 minutes)

A clinical coordinator confirms whether surgical repair looks like the right conversation, books the consultation if so, and answers cost questions.
  2. 2

Consultation with Charles Corbin (£350, 60 minutes)

Imaging review, examination, and a treatment plan in writing. We confirm whether the tear is best managed surgically, conservatively or with image-guided injection.
  3. 3

    Pre-operative preparation

Bloods, anaesthetic review, consent process. Typically two to three weeks before surgery.
  4. 4

    Day of surgery

Day-case admission at our partner hospital on Weymouth Street, central London. Surgery takes ninety to one hundred and twenty minutes. Most patients are home the same day.
  5. 5

    First six weeks

Sling and protected range-of-motion to allow the repair and the augmentation to integrate. Direct line to the surgical team for any concerns during this period.
  6. 6

    Weeks 6 to 16

Physiotherapy with your chosen physiotherapist, progressive return to function. Two follow-up consultations included with us.
  7. 7

    Six-month review

Outcome assessment, return-to-activity guidance, and discharge planning.

Funding, insurance and payment

Self-pay

£16,000 settled by bank transfer or card before surgery.

We can discuss finance options on request rather than promoting a specific finance partner.

Private medical insurance

London Cartilage Clinic is a private-pay practice and does not work with UK insurance panels.

If you are insured, we can provide an itemised invoice for you to submit for reimbursement, but you settle the bill with us directly.

International patients

We coordinate consultation, imaging, surgery and follow-up into a focused visit for international patients. Travel and accommodation are arranged separately.

Outcomes and what changes

Most patients are out of the sling by week six and return to most recreational activity by four to six months. Higher-impact activity (overhead sport, heavy lifting) is confirmed at the six-month review. The REGENTEN augmentation reduces re-tear risk compared to repair without augmentation.

For smaller, partial-thickness tears, conservative management or biologically-augmented injection often gives as good an outcome as surgery. We will be honest about which is the right conversation for your specific tear.

Patient stories

I had a complete rotator cuff tear and was told it would not heal without surgery. The repair with REGENTEN held up well; six months on I am back to climbing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does rotator cuff repair cost in the UK?

Rotator cuff repair at London Cartilage Clinic is £16,000all-inclusive. That covers theatre, the REGENTEN tendon augmentation, the consultant anaesthetist, the surgeon’s time, two follow-up appointments and the six-month review.

What is REGENTEN and why is it included?

REGENTEN is a porcine collagen tendon-augmentation device that supports rotator cuff repair and reduces re-tear risk, particularly in larger or retracted tears. We include it in the £16,000 price as standard rather than charging it as an extra.

When is rotator cuff repair the right operation?

Most full-thickness tears benefit from surgical repair, particularly in active patients. Many partial-thickness tears do well with conservative management or biologically-augmented injection (PRP, mFat). Charles will tell you, at consultation, which is the right conversation for your specific tear.

Who is Charles Corbin?

Charles Corbin is the consultant shoulder and hand surgeon at London Cartilage Clinic. He leads rotator cuff repair, shoulder labrum work and hand surgery for the clinic.

Can I claim rotator cuff repair on private medical insurance?

London Cartilage Clinic is a private-pay practice and does not contract with UK PMI panels. If you are insured, we can provide an itemised invoice for you to submit for reimbursement, but you settle the bill with us directly.

Does the price include the anaesthetist and the augmentation?

Yes. The £16,000figure includes the consultant anaesthetist’s fee, theatre time, the REGENTEN augmentation, and the surgeon’s time on the day.

How long is recovery, and is physiotherapy included?

Most patients are out of the sling by week six and return to most recreational activity by four to six months. Physiotherapy is not included; we share the post-operative programme with your physiotherapist.

What if I have only a partial tear?

Many partial-thickness tears do well without surgery. Image-guided PRP or mFat injection, supported by physiotherapy, often gives durable symptom control. Where the tear is failing to respond, surgical repair is the next conversation.

Why is rotator cuff repair at London Cartilage Clinic priced where it is?

The £16,000figure reflects theatre time for an arthroscopic procedure, the REGENTEN tendon augmentation, the consultant anaesthetist, the surgeon’s time, and a six-month follow-up programme.

Is the surgeon I see at consultation the same one who will operate?

Yes. Charles Corbin is your consulting surgeon, your operating surgeon, and your reviewing surgeon throughout follow-up.

Where will the surgery happen?

The consultation is at 66 Harley Street. The surgery itself is performed at our partner private hospital on Weymouth Street, central London.
